Argentina Signs Deal to Acquire 24 F-16s from Denmark

In a significant step towards the modernization and recovery of its military capabilities, Argentina has finalized its largest military aircraft acquisition in decades with the purchase of 24 F-16s from Denmark.

The deal, worth about 21 billion Danish kroner ($3.1 billion), was signed on Tuesday by Denmark's Defense Minister Morten Bodskov and Argentina's Defense Minister Luis Alfonso Petri.

The F-16s, which are being retired from the Royal Danish Air Force, are expected to begin arriving in Argentina in 2025. They will replace the country's aging fleet of A-4 Skyhawks and Mirage III fighter jets.

"This is a historic day for Argentina," President Javier Milei said in a statement. "These aircraft will give our country a modern and effective air defense capability that will help us to protect our sovereignty and deter potential threats."

The purchase of the F-16s is part of a broader effort by Argentina to modernize its military. In recent years, the country has also acquired new frigates, submarines, and armored vehicles.
